Kurumi Tokisaki becomes interested in a certain white cat soon after going into another realm. The two part ways, much to Kurumi's chagrin. Hibiki Higoromo, a white-haired quasi-spirit, later encounters Kurumi. Hibiki reveals that they are caught up in a murdering game between quasi-spirits. The spirits compete within the Neighboring World for a single desire to be given to the lone survivor of the death-match. Kurumi and Hibiki find a compromise—a temporary alliance—after learning the rules of the game.
