Tsukimihara Academy is an artificial high school that serves as the scene for the upcoming Holy Grail War. It is a technological nightmare masquerading as paradise. The Moon Cell computer created the school, which is inhabited by Earth-projected souls with even the slightest potential for being a "Master." Of these 256 souls, 128 will be picked for the main tournament and given a Servant. With all of the Masters chosen, the Academy initiates a purge, focusing on the remaining lifeforms for annihilation. Hakuno Kishinami refuses to die after awakening in a pool of his own blood. He swears to battle for survival, fueled by mysterious thoughts of anger. As he tries to flee from a persistent pursuer, he discovers a red blade plunged into the ground; and by chance, he discovers a crimson blade plunged into the earth; and by chance, he discovers a crimson blade plunge and by pulling it out, Hakuno summons his own Servant, Saber, who instantly destroys his pursuer in a flurry of rose petals.
