Ezaki Yuuichi has been confined to a hospital after developing hepatitis A, much to his chagrin, away from his friends and family. To ease his boredom, he has turned to slipping out of the hospital, generally resulting in a pounding from his nurse. When he meets a girl his age who is also in the hospital, he is immediately smitten by her attractiveness. However, Akiba Rika's demeanor is not as compelling as her attractiveness. She is, in reality, selfish, temperamental, and domineering. But as they spend more time together, they grow closer, enjoying the usual joys and pains of a growing adolescent relationship, even when shadowed by looming tragedy—because Rika's affliction does not leave her for long.
