Houtarou Oreki, a high school student, has only one goal: to live a gray existence while conserving as much energy as possible. His calm days are cut short when his elder sister, Tomoe, compels him to save the memberless Classics Club from disbandment. Fortunately, Oreki's issue appears to be ended when he enters the clubroom and sees that his fellow first-year, Eru Chitanda, has already joined. Despite the fact that his responsibility has been done, Oreki becomes captivated by Chitanda's inquisitive and lively attitude, and soon joins the group of his own desire. Hyouka follows the four members of the Classics Club, including Oreki's pals Satoshi Fukube and Mayaka Ibara, as they solve the petty yet interesting mysteries that pervade the city, inspired by Chitanda's unquenchable curiosity.
