Takumi Fujiwara has established himself as street racing's newest emerging star after a string of victories in his AE86. His newly found confidence in winning on his home territory of Mount Akina, however, has been undermined by a new Emperor team that is only employing a vehicle model favored by most professional racing pilots: the Mitsubishi four-wheel drive Lancer Evolutions—also known as Lan Evos. Kyouichi Sudou, the Emperor team captain, considers Takumi as a lesser pilot for racing an ancient automobile that lacks the makings of a proper modern race car. Kyouichi's elitist mentality also explains why his team is made of entirely of Lan Evo drivers. Will Takumi be able to maintain his flawless record?
