With the start of the Patrian civil war came the invention of half-beast, half-human troops, a desperate attempt by the outnumbered Northerners to confront the overpowering Southern armies. The soldiers' godlike abilities earned them the name "Incarnates," as they were able to quickly dominate battlefields and achieve victory with ease. However, as the war progressed, the Incarnates encountered a problem involving the beasts within them that they were unable to resolve through normal means. After the war, riddles and reports of the Incarnates succumbing to the misfortunes of their battle days emerged. Hank Henriette, a Special Sergeant Major and former captain of the Incarnates, becomes a Beast Hunter after witnessing the atrocities they experienced during the war.
