Gen Kudou, a koto maker, worries that his wayward grandson Chika would never grasp the significance of the ancient musical instrument. Chika attempts to join the Tokise High School Koto Club in order to atone for his naiveté and better appreciate his late grandfather's instructions. Despite the fact that the club is in desperate need of members, new club president Takezou Kurata is hesitant to accept Chika's application owing to his terrible reputation. Nonetheless, after witnessing Chika's dedication and zeal, Takezou invites the troubled kid to join the band, along with koto prodigy Satowa Houzuki and three of Chika's enthusiastic companions. Tomare Kono Oto! follows a merry band of musicians as they strive to compete in a national tournament.
