Previously an assistant to Professor Platane of Miare City, Alain and his Lizardon embarked on a quest to become even stronger by mastering the abilities of mega evolution. At the request of the enigmatic Fleur-de-lis, Alain and Lizardon travel across Kalos and Hoenn in search of skilled trainers who can employ mega evolution to improve while also assisting Fleur-de-lis with his studies. Along the trip, they encounter a little girl named Manon, who decides to join Alain with her Harimaron, to which he grudgingly accepts.
