When Levi and Erwin meet paths, Erwin recognizes Levi's quickness and talent and offers him the choice of joining the expedition team or being turned over to the Military Police to atone for his misdeeds. Now that they are closer to the guy they have been charged with killing, the gang intends to execute their objective and free themselves from a bleak fate in the murky reaches of their former home. However, they are soon to discover that the surface world is not as freeing as they had imagined, and that freedom may often come at a high cost.
