Okabe meets the short, vivacious Maho Hiyajo while working as a receptionist at a collegiate technology forum. Professor Alexis Leskinen's presentation at the forum is conducted by him, and he is the interpreter. Alexis and Maho present Amadeus, a groundbreaking AI capable of retaining a person's memories and producing an exact replica of that person, replete with personality and idiosyncrasies, in front of an astonished audience. After the presentation, Okabe meets with Maho and Alexis and discovers that the two were Kurisu's university classmates and that they had emulated her in Amadeus. Okabe is offered the opportunity to engage with the shadow of a long-lost loved friend by Alexis, who hired him to study the simulation's behavior. Okabe must confront the consequences of his dangerous past.
