Baseball is still relatively unknown in Japan in 1925 (year 14 of the Taisho era), with only a few male clubs. After hearing from a baseball player that women should stay at home and raise children rather than go to school, 14-year-old Akiko urges her friend Koume to form a baseball club to prove him wrong. Baseball is known as "what the boys do" during this time, when even running was considered too vulgar for women, and they face many challenges in finding enough members, getting permission from their parents, and learning about the sport itself, which they soon discover is more difficult than expected.
