Takahiro Mizuno, a student preparing to be a begleiter (knight's helper) at an institution where aspiring knights joust, is the protagonist of Walkure Romanze. After becoming the unmatched junior champion in his own country, he had come to this institution to train as a knight. However, he had to withdraw due to an injury sustained in the finals of a tournament. Instead, he volunteers to be a begleiter for one of the academy's maiden knights in order to assist her in winning.
