Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou, like its precursor, is about Takashi Natsume, a young boy who has had the capacity to see youkai since he was a child, and his bodyguard youkai Madara, also known as Nyanko-sensei. Natsume tries to find youkai in his hamlet who have names recorded in his "Book of Friends" (which he received from his grandma Reiko). During his journeys, Natsume encounters some friendly youkai, others who want to steal the Book, and some who want to murder him, all while learning more about himself and his connection with these fascinating entities.
